About

Raja Peary Mohan College, one of the colleges in high demand in the district of Hooghly for its good academic environment, attracts a large number of students from rural areas to pursue under-graduate studies in Sciences, Humanities as well as in Commerce.

Physics as a separate discipline was introduced in 1964. With gradual upgradation of its infrastructure over the years, the department is now well-equipped with laboratories with basic and advanced facilities, a computer laboratory and a departmental library with a rich collection of books. At present, the department has five full-time faculty members, one SACT, and two temporary laboratory assistants.

Academic performances of the departmental students have been consistently good.  A large number of students keep interest in higher education and research.  In view of that, students are encouraged to attend seminars, conferences, and interact with the renowned teachers and scientists in various Institutes, Universities.

The academic condition regarding the quality of faculty and learning transfer process is healthy and adequate.  All the teachers of the department are sincerely engaged in scholarly pursuits.  The Department of Physics seeks to impart holistic education to college students through various co-curricular activities, seminars, workshops, educational field visits, exposure to research laboratories, distinguished lectures, and various outreach activities in colleges.

Best Practices

Physics is the most fundamental of all sciences.  Learning physics is primarily studying the fundamental laws that govern our universe.   Our vision is to render the essential knowledge of physics to the students to pursue a career in research and development or other sectors.

A bridge course for newly admitted students is conducted every year before the commencement of the first semester classes in order to bridge the gap between subjects studied at school level and subjects they would be studying in B.Sc. level.

To maintain a cordial relationship between the students and teachers for smooth and healthy teaching and learning process the Mentor-mentee program has been introduced by our college.

Students are encouraged to deliver talks on topics of their choices for better communication and independent thinking.

Teaching Learning

A cordial relationship between students and teachers makes the teaching and learning process smooth and healthy. With this belief, all the faculty members of the department sincerely engage themselves in teaching including tutorials, and also personal developments of the students.  As a part of the learning process, students are encouraged to deliver talks on topics not necessarily related to the course and to prepare wall magazines under the guidance of any member of the faculty of the department.  The department is enriched with a sizable collection of books for the use of students and teachers.  Parents-teachers meeting is regularly arranged to discuss with the parents about the progress, weakness, attendance, and behavior of their wards.
