About

The Department of Bengali is one of the oldest departments in Raja Peary Mohan College. The department started its Honours course in 1957. Jayanta Kumar Bandopadhyay who is an imminent professor stood first in Bengali Honours in 1961. Most of the students of our department are well in media, public and private sectors. Ujjwal Kumar Majumder, Professor Rathin Roy and many more who are renowned and respected professors who taught our students and glorified our department. 

Since the beginning our faculty has always tried to maintain quality in academic field. Equal emphasis is also given so that our students can enrich themselves in cultural and social fields. The faculty members are well experienced and they constantly enrich themselves by participating in various State, National and International Seminars, attaining workshops, publishing articles in reputed journals and contributing chapters in various books. Students are proud of their department and hope to keep the lamp of learning ablaze through a new age of our department. 

Best Practices

  • A Bridge Course for newly admitted students is conducted every year before the commencement of the first semester classes. The main objective of this course is to bridge the gap between subjects studied at the Pre-university level and subjects they would be studying at Graduation.
  • A Departmental Seminar Library is used by the students of both Honours and General students.
  • The ICT based teaching facility is present in the department that can help the students to better understand the topics.
  • Remedial classes are also taken to develop the learners and to clear the concepts.
  • Add-on and Certificate Courses are offered regularly to develop their knowledge about the subject beyond syllabus. 

Teaching Learning

  • The department creates an atmosphere where teaching-learning becomes student centric. The department always had a good academic record. To maintain this legacy, our department is making sincere efforts to maintain high standard of teaching and research.
  • Teaching method is normally followed along with tutorial, remedial classes, home assignments, special lectures from educators from other Institutions are also invited by the faculty. 
  • Teachers are available beyond class hours. LCD Projectors and Computers are frequently used for comprehensive teaching.

Capacity Building

The Department practices innovative teaching through Project and field work, and Wall Magazine. The Department feels the need to inculcate the broader spheres, like those issues involving man and the society, among the students and thereby extend their horizon. The Department aims to highlight the importance of social science in today’s world in various fields and resolves to bring out the creative writing skills of the students. The Department introduce Add-on and Certificate courses to enlarge their vision towards studies.

 

 

 

Academic Activities

  • The Department arranges regular student seminars, invited lecturers by distinguished teachers in an attempt to train them for upcoming studies and researches.
  • Wall magazines and E-magazine is published quarterly every year.
  • The students also take part in regular personality development programs and they are also encouraged to participate in regular activities relevant to their studies in campus and outside of the college as well. 
  • Add-on and Certificate course are also offered to the students to gain knowledge beyond syllabus.
  • The department needs to inculcate the broader spheres, issues involving man and society, among the students and thereby extend their horizon.
  • Regular Faculty Exchange Programmes are in practice to develop students on new verge of learning.
